Had breakfast at The Waffle House, again. Uneventful ride home
I got up early, took down the tent then Joe and I walked a couple of blocks to a cafe where we got coffee and sort of a McMuffin. The three buses then went to the Hampton Inn to pick up more bikers. We stopped about mid-morning at a Golden Coral for some lunch. Buses got in about four o'clock. I loaded my bags and bike then drove to Motel 6 on route 70. Larry was kind of nice to lead me to the Route 40 entrance from the parking lot . After checking in at the Hotel I drove up I70 again looking for a nice restaurant but got lost and came back and had dinner at the Waffle House
The first hill of the day was up Lakey Gap which is designated a NC Scenic Byway. This hill was long but not as steep as our leader painted the night before at the meeting. However, the ride down the other side was "interesting" with lots of nice steep switchbacks. Most of the hills this day were long. The top of the first hill was over the Eastern Continental Divide. The hills around Lake James, booked as "challenging", were. Boiled peanuts were to be had somewhere along the way. They seem to be popular in the South. They are horrible. They say that you have to acquire a taste for them. Yuk.
I had to go to Denny's for breakfast because the YMCA facility dining area was closed to bikers until this evening.
